Web 3.0
Introduction
This article is supposed to be the anchor point for future articles regarding web 3.0. The purpose is to collect everything there is wrt web 3.0 here and and continue the exploration.
What is Web 1.0 and 2.0
The Internet in its current state is said to be web 2.0 which roughly started twenty years ago and includes web based applications which allowed more user participation. Anything before that since the inception of the internet can be considered as web 1.0.There is no clear line between 1.0 and 2.0 they aren’t like 4G and 5G. No central authority created this distinction; it just came to be as part of the organic evolution of the internet and web application as whole.
What is Web 3.0
In similar fashion Web 3.0 doesn’t have a precise start date or a specific tech representation. This is the next phase in advancement of the connected world which is recognised by several groups and industry experts. Web 3.0 doesn’t mean the end of Web 2.0 as Web 2.0 didn’t end what represented Web 1.0. It’s just a different way of interacting with the connected ecosystem.
There are several definitions and explanations out there for web 3.0 which I’m linking below. In short everyone attributed a decentralised and semantic internet to be the web 3.0
Standards and Technologies
This shift toward Web 3.0 is the result of development of new technologies and standardisation of new protocols. As said earlier it is an organic advancement within a field not an active effort to create Web 3.0 but nonetheless defines it.
Application
Last layer is products and applications on top of web 3.0. For developers it is high time to be creative and use the standards and technologies to come up with consumer apps. For creators it is an opportunity to open up shop and start leveraging the next phase of the internet. Primarily the contributors and creators of products like Gumroad, Substack, skillshare, reddit, Wikipedia, youtube, instagram will get a more open environment to share what they build with the world and make money doing it organically.
